Really Good Hair Oil, Fushi - Review

Really Good Hair Oil, Fushi*
Party season is almost over.  We ate and drank too much and frazzled our hair with blow dryers, hair straighteners and curling tongs.  Well fear not.  Whilst I cannot cure your hangover, I can help restore your hair to it's former pre-Christmas glory with the help of some Really Good Hair Oil from Fushi.

The Vegan Kind Box, December - Review

After the huge success of TVK1 (see my review here), I eagerly awaited the arrival of TVK2.  I was having a miserable morning which soon changed when the postman came with said TheVeganKind box in his arms.  I wanted to rip it open but calmed myself down enough to get the camera and my ever-faithful hound Pepé.

Blogger Secret Santas!

I am a miserable person who does not like Christmas.  However, I LOVE buying presents so when I saw the words 'Blogger Secret Santa' pop up on Twitter, my ears pricked up and I signed up to two. Yes, I'm greedy.  The first one I joined was Hayley's from Tea Party Beauty and the second was Jessie's from Dungaree's and Doughnut's.

From Jessie's Secret Santa, Rachael who runs Rachaelamyy bought me these goodies.

Lavender Dead Sea Bath Soak, Ruth Romano -Review

Dead Sea bath soak*
Wow!  When Ruth herself from Ruth Romano sent me a sample of Lavender Dead Sea bath soak, I was not expecting salts with such a kick.  I've used many bath salts before and whilst they smell lovely, their smell disappears almost as quickly as the salt does.  This is far from the case with Ruth Romano.

Montezuma's British Pudding Advent Calendar -Review

Montezuma's British Pudding Advent Calendar
This year I thought I would treat myself to a fancy advent calendar so after painstakingly trawling the internet, I decided on a Montezuma's British Pudding Advent Calendar.  The advent calendar itself is colourful and very pretty.  It is a mainly a light blue with a cute symmetrical pattern featuring reindeer, robins, doves, baubles and snowflakes.

Hallmark Hotel & Spa, Gloucester -Review

When browsing the internet for birthday ideas for my sister, I found an offer for a spa day, light lunch and two 20 minute treatments at Hallmark Hotel in Gloucester for a very reasonable price.  I had been before for a spa day and afternoon tea with my boyfriend so thought this would be perfect.  It was easy to find having been there before.  It's hard to miss as it's directly opposite a ski slope.

The Melting Snowman Bath Melt, Lush -Review

Melting Snowman
We all know I'm a huge Lush fan and I'm slowly learning that I'm a lover of the subtle in-shop smells.  Much like the Floating Island Bath Melt (review here), The Melting Snowman also has a scent which does not stand out in the shop.  The aroma doesn't truly come alive until it is in the bath and wow!  If you are a fan of Christmasy spicyness then this is the one for you.  You'd be a Scrooge not grab one of these.

Despite not actually having been tagged, I just couldn't resist answering these questions on my favourite season.  I love Autumn.  Luckily I live in a forest so I get to really notice the changing colours and how it alters the landscape.  Autumn is the best.

Yurbuds - Review

Yurbuds
Yurbuds
I love running!  I've ran countless 5ks, 3 half-marathons and most recently Tough Mudder (read about that here).  One thing that helps me when I'm training is listening to music.  It can be a lifesaver, giving me a boost of energy and pushing me that bit harder.  However, there is nothing worse than when that power song comes on and your earplugs fall out.  Nobody has time to be constantly sticking earplugs whilst trying not to fall over.

Caca Rouge, Lush - Review

In this post I mentioned that I would be using Lush's Caca Rouge before my holiday. Finally (sorry it's taken so long) here is the henna post.
For all you thinking "Caca whaa?" let me explain.. Caca Rouge is henna, a 100% natural dye made from the flowers of the henna tree and used for many wondrous things one of which being a hair colourant which comes in various colours - red, auburn, brown, black. It has none of the nasty ingredients that mainstream hair dyes contain and isn't damaging to the environment.

I first used Caca Rouge in 2008. The Swansea sun had bleached my lovely red locks into strawberry blonde - NOT happy. Being as Lush obsessed as I am, I popped into my local and explained my dilemma where I was given a sample. I have not looked back and when I feel my gingerness needs a boost, out comes the henna.

Tough Mudder!

A bit of a different post today.  Last Saturday I did Tough Mudder at Glanusk Estate in beautiful Wales. It was a 11.5 mile multi-terrain obstacle course and like the name of the race suggests, it was tough! I have the cuts, bruises and damaged foot bones to prove it.
Donate your muddy shoes here

They weren't any kind of obstacles, on no.  No simple climbing nets for me.  Think plunging under ice water, crawling through rock laden muddy tunnels, lots of electric shocks and wading through a river. These were just a few of the obstacles I had to complete, but I can happily say that I DID complete it.

The Malvern Spa, Worcester -Review

A short while back, my sisters and I paid a visit to The Malvern Spa, located in the beautiful Malvern hills of Worcestershire (The Queen drinks the water from these hills).  Our spa day package included full use of the spa facilities, a light lunch and a treatment each.

I'm off!

Hello everyone. I am off on holiday to Combe Martin in Devon tomorrow. I've been looking forward to it for months and months. Yaaay!

About 2 months ago I used Superdrug Crème Sensations Light Brown hair dye and turned my lovely golden locks into plan, boring brunette. It was meant to last up to 28 washes and I have no idea how many times I've washed my hair, but I'm bored and have ran out of patience to returning to my natural ginger self. This calls for drastic measures. Tomorrow morning I shall be using Lush's Caca Rouge henna. I've used it before to enhance my natural colour with some amazing results. I will be sure to take photos and write up a full review post-Devon. I NEED to be ginger again. It's simply the only way to live.

Have you ever just been so bored of your dyed hair that you've had to dye it back? What do you think of henna? I love it.

Rose Jam Shower Gel, Lush - Review

Rose Jam showel gel, Lush
Rose Jam showel gel, Lush
Last Monday I posted my wishlist (check it out here.)  Swiftly after posting my list I went onto the Lush website and snapped up a 500g bottle of limited edition Rose Jam shower gel.  You probably know that I am a crazy loony fan of Lush so whilst I was at it, I popped a  Ne Worry Pas bath bomb and a small bottle of Sonic Death Monkey shower gel into my online basket.  The nice packing lady also added samples of Vanilla Dee-Light body lotion, Turkish Delight and Dreamwash shower smoothies and a little slice of The Godmother soap.

Hello September

I'm really looking forward to this month. To me it marks the end of summer and the beginning of my favourite season, autumn. It's going to be quite a busy month for me too as I've also got a holiday in North Devon in just under 2 weeks which I've been excited about for months. Then at the end of the month I've got Tough Mudder where I'll see if the past few months of training has paid off. So excited! Bring on September!

What are your plans for this month?  Are you sad to see summer end?

Love Me Beauty Box | July 2013

I've only recently discovered the wonders of the beauty box.  I did not know such things existed until I entered the beauty blogger world.  What is a beauty box?  Basically, it's a box (well duh) delivered to your door on a monthly basis.  The Beauteco box (now called Love Me Beauty) contains 4 - 5 samples and/or full sized products from both well known and up and coming companies.  The great thing is is that you often get products that haven't even been released to the public yet and they are fantastic value for money.

Beautifully packaged and wrapped

Bank Holiday Wants / Wishlist

Hello everyone. I hope you are having a relaxing bank holiday. So far I've been walking the dogs and washing my sisters retriever with the hose in the garden. All this after spending the morning ringing all the Primark stores within a 40 mile radius to see if they have something I'm desperate for... They didn't! :'(  I think I'm due for a shower but I think I'll put it off until I've ran.

Anyway... There are quite a few things I really want to try so thought I'd share my current few wants with you.

Total Treat Argan Oil, Phil Smith - Review

Total Treat Argan Oil, Phil Smith
Total Treat Argan Oil, Phil Smith
I have never been one to use oil in my hair.  The thought alone is rather intimidating.  However, when I came across a 50ml sample of Phil Smiths Total Treat Argan Oil, I really wanted to try it as it is a cream rather than an oil.  I'm so glad I did, and it was really easy to use too.  It seems that I'm forever ignoring products only for one to come my way to discover that actually I love it.

Tummy Fix, Nip+Fab -Review

Tummy Fix, Nip + Fab
Tummy Fix, Nip + Fab
I have heard a lot of rave reviews about the brand Nip+Fab and have since been eager to try.  I was fortunate enough to find this product in a £9 gift set from TK Maxx (bargin!) which included Bust Fix and Dry Leg Fix which I swiftly sold as it was the Tummy Fix I was desperate for and certainly did not want to branch out £19.25 just to try it.  I must say, I am very glad I did not pay for this product alone because quite simply, out of the many ‘toning’ products I have used, this is by far the worst (and potentially most expensive).  Yes boys and girls, this review is actually a negative one.

I did not buy this product expecting miracles.  I workout frequently and have a good diet.  Abs come from hard work and dedication, not a bottle.  However, I still buy these products as I like to think I'm getting something extra in my daily moisturiser.  Every little helps right?

Upon using the product, I felt no difference.  My torso area was no more moisturised than it is from regular lotion. I would even go as far to say that is was less moisturised and instead coated with a slow drying sticky gel which scent bordered on average to unpleasantly chemically.  I am very habitual in my routine.  I would wake up, dry body brush, apply Tummy Fix and wait for it to dry before getting dressed.  I did this almost every day until the tube ran dry.  Nip+Fab states “uses a revolutionary formula to improve skin tone + texture around the abdominal area… with active ingredients to promote elasticity, sculpt, hydrate…” so I was obviously expecting results.  Not ripped washboard abs, but maybe a subtle tightening feeling, a little tingle, a slight sheen perhaps, just anything!  So I persevered and saw it through to the end as I thought maybe after continuous use of beyond 6 weeks I would start to feel/see a difference.  I was wrong.

It certainly did not live up the the hype and you are better off buying products that are a 5th of the price which actually give results.

Any positive points? Well, the packaging is pretty and because I sold the two additional products it came with, I made a profit.  If I had realised that people would pay so much for such an inferior product, I would have stocked up and made a small fortune.  Tummy Fix?  Tummy Flop!

Have you used any Nip+Fab products before?  If so, were you equally disappointed?  What are the most disappointing products you've used?

Floating Island Bath Melt, Lush - Review

Floating Island Luxury Bath Melt, Lush
Floating Island Luxury Bath Melt, Lush

I first fell in love with Lush after receiving one of their many beautifully packaged gift boxes in 1999 but it wasn't until 2007 that I discovered the delights of the Floating Island Bath Melt.

As a lover of baths (and Lush), I tend to choose my Lush products by scent alone and Floating Island is one that does not stand out in this department. It has an extremely delicate sandalwood and cocoa aroma and as for its appearance, it is very plain in both colour and shape. As such, it is easily overlooked by all the other colourful, fragrant, flamboyant products which seem to scream ‘Pick me! Pick me!’.

So how did I end up with a product that could well have been forgotten at the back of a staff room cupboard for all the consideration I gave it? Quite simply, I got it for free during one stock-up in Lush Swansea. It was coming up to its use by date so they wanted to get rid of it.

Due to my preconception of the plainness of this product, I was not expecting anything special. The smell was much stronger out of the heavily scented shop and it has fast become one of my favourites. This is not the reason why I am infatuated. I love it because no other bath bomb, bubble bar or melt from any company has given me such soft skin as this one has. No moisturiser was needed post-bath which was a first. I was silky smooth and covered in such a wonderful scent that lasted the rest of the day and the following.

This item currently costs £4.15. Some may say this is too much, but for a luxury product that uses the finest fair trade ingredients which are not tested on animals at all during the whole process, it is worth every penny and I have since treated myself to several more.

I must note that this is a luxury bath melt, not a bubble bar. Do not expect bubbles or wonderful fizzing action. This product is designed to turn your water into a purely indulgent milk-type bathing experience. If Cleopatra had the choice between milk and a Floating Island, Lush would win hands down.

Unfortunately my nearest Lush is 30 miles away and I am very overdue for a haul. Have you ever used any of their luxury bath melts? What is you all time favourite Lush product?

First Post... kinda.

Hey everyone and welcome! As much as I'd like to say this is my first post, well... it isn't. I am a bit of a blogging addict to be honest, hosting others on Tumblr. So who am I and what am I doing here?

Moi :)
Moi  :)
Well, I'm Helen and I'm from Gloucestershire in the UK.  I'm in my twenties and a proud vegetarian redhead who loves to run. I trained and ran the Tough Mudder in September 2013. Did I hear someone say a 12 mile obstacle course featuring fire, electric shocks and lots of mud? Yes please! That kind of insane madness is what I like to do for fun.

When I'm not running or walking my little chihuahua Pepé, I be spend an unhealthy amount of time in the bath indulging in beauty products and thinking about 'stuff' I use, so I thought it might be fun to share my experiences and opinions with the rest of the world about all this 'stuff'.  I hope to be posting somewhat interesting reviews and photographs about all manner of beautiful things, from daily lotions and potions, healthy treats to the all too rare spa day.

I hope you'll enjoy my posts and friendships will be made, so stick around and grab a cup of tea.
