Commissioned dog portraits by Lyn Dixon

Years ago, my mum secretly had a piece of art commissioned for my dad and I by local artist Lyn Dixon. It was a portrait of our rescued jack russels Max and Sadie.

Both of these dogs have past on so its a nice reminder which hangs pride of place in the living room. As regular readers know, I am currently traveling for at least a year and I'm going to miss my little chi Pepé very much. So I decided to get in touch with Lyn to get a portrait of him done as a surprise Christmas present for my parents.
Despite having passed my driving test, I had no available transport at the time to take Pepé to Ross-on-Wye, Lyn's hometown a short drive from me so we arranged for photos to be sent instead.
It took 3 days to create and here is the final piece:

I am so happy with the result and look forward to seeing my parents unwrap this over Skype. They have no idea I've gotten them anything.
Obviously this post is going out after they have opened it, just in case. In fact, here is a screenshot of them opening it with my sister!

Have you ever had a piece of art commissioned?

  1. Wow, those pictures are amazing! I'd love to have a portrait done of my Jack Russell - I've tried doing one myself but it's really hard to capture all her expression right, probably because I know her so well!

    1. Yeah years ago I tried to draw Max but got frustrated so gave up. Probably better to get a professional to do it haha.
