Brightening & Hydrating Masque & Clarifying Exfoliator, Zk'in - Review

Zk'in are a cruelty free skincare company I had heard a lot of good things about and when I saw that a few of their products containe my most favourite ingredient combo of all, I knew they were the perfect brand for me. My weakness?... Chocolate orange. Evidence 1, evidence 2. You get the point.

Brightening & Hydrating Masque, Zk'in

Their Brightening & Hydrating Masque is 93.63% organic (that's a lot of organic). A blend of brown seaweed extract, cocoa and bitter orange. Using a face mask is always relaxing but more so when it smells delicious. Just try not to eat it...
I've tried a few masks that claim they brighten your skin with not very impressive results but with Zk'in I can actually see the difference straight away. Now I'm on the wrong side of 25 I really appreciate the anti-aging, tightening effects of the brown seaweed as my forehead is always less ''liney' after use. I used this mask before I danced on stage (another post for another day maybe) as well as before interviews as it made me look more perky.
Its a rich brown with the smooth texture of melted chocolate. After a little while it starts to harden making smiling and conversation quite difficult. Not good when you're sitting in a room with people trying to make you laugh. Even after you've washed it off, your face still smells chocolatey. Just make sure you are certain you've washed it all off to avoid awkward encounters.
One afternoon I applied some to my partners face who said he detected a kind of yeasty smell. After he pointed it out, so could I. This actually didn't make the mask less appealing and after studing the ingredients, the only thing I can see that may give it this slight scent is the Leuconostoc/ Radish root ferment filtrate or perhaps we are just imagining a smell that isn't there. Either way, the cocoa and orange aroma is divine.

The next product I tested was their 97.90% organic Clarifying Exfoliator. Now this is one for the coffee lovers as its made with ground up coffee beans to gently exfoliate your skin. Coffee scrubs seem to be the current beauty trend and I'm all for it. Imagine all the caffeinated coffee grounds that get chucked daily into the bin or onto gardens (fantastic fertiliser!) why not add them into your beauty regime as well?  Add a dash of cocoa and bitter orange like in the masque and you've got yourself an orange mocha frappuchino for your face. Definitely the face mask Zoolander would choose.
I found the consistency of this a quite runny but once applied to my face it was fine and made for a nice mini facemask. I gently rubbed it in and left it on for a few minutes for the ingredients to work before washing it off. My skin looked fresher and perkier. An espresso shot for your face. The caffeine works well as a skin booster and combined with the Brightening & Hydrating Masque, my skin has not looked so glowy and radiant.

I'm definitely going to have to buy these as not only do they both smell amazing, they actually work which in this day and age is quite a rare thing. I look forward to trying more of their range as I was beyond impressed. Now if you don't mind, I think I deserve an orange mocha frappuchino.

  1. A chocolate scented mask?! Count me in! Always on the look out for more natural skin care - my skin is quite sensitive and definitely prefers products this way! Never heard of this brand but they look great, will be keeping an eye out for them!
