Lost in a Book / Tag

I recently came across this an old tag on Rai's blog Utter Ardour and thought it might be nice for you to get to know me a bit better via my love of books.

Lost in a Book Tag
1. | Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Mostly in bed. Sometimes I will go read outside during a warm summer day and I used to read all the time in the bath before it got taken away. *cries gently onto a chihuahua*

| Where do you like to read?
Like the first question, I like reading in bed but I do most of my reading on the train to and from uni. With an hour each way to burn, it is perfect for grinding down a good story.

| Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Most of the books I read are actually on my Kindle so neither. However, when I read proper books I always use my polar bear bookmark.

4 | Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop at a chapter?

If I am in bed then I will try to stop at the end of a chapter or at least at the end of a paragraph or page break. Annoyingly when I am reading on my break at work then I don't get the chance of either.

| Do you eat or drink while reading?

Of course! I'll be eating my lunch and reading on my break at work or drinking tea at home.

| E-reader or real book?
I used to hate Kindles but found myself peering over the shoulder of someone with one too many times. My dad brought me one a couple of years ago to cheer me up and I haven't looked back since. Hate them or love them, you cannot deny that they are amazing tools for travelling, as you can have so many books at once and it weighs next to nothing. My Kindle was one of the best things I took to Australia. Saying this, if there is a book or series I really like then I just have to buy the real thing. I love my signature edition Harry Potter Box Set and I've been eyeing up the special anniversary editions of His Dark Materials series.
I also love audio books. Great to give your eyes a rest. I feel it offers a different experience.

| Music or television while reading?
No way! I am focused on the words I am reading so hearing different words at the same time puts me off. I can cope with general background noise of public transport and I don't mind reading in a room with someone watching telly or playing a video game as long as it is not too loud.

| One book at a time or several at once?
Usually one at a time but the past few months I seem to have at least two on the go. Normally I'll complete a book before I start a new one. If the story is an epic novel then sometimes I'll have a break and read another book. Due to this "technique", it took me a whole year to read A Song of Ice and Fire. Oops.

| Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere! A great way to fill in the time when waiting for a doctors appointment or on a bus.

10 | Reading aloud or silently in your head?
Normal books = in my head.
Academic books = out load so I sound really brainy.

11 | Fiction or non-fiction?
Fiction. I have read a few non-fiction books but nothing gets my literal juices flowing than good old fantasy. I love being emerged into new fantasy worlds and dystopian futures. I like historical based fiction too so it is not all wizards and dragons.

12 | Do you read ahead or skip pages?
When I started reading properly as a teenage I would always read the very last sentence first. I wouldn't dream of doing such an unspeakable thing like that now. Spoilers! Just imagine reading 'Then Harry Potter woke up under the stairs and realised it had all been a dream." Ahhhh!

13 | Break the spine or keep the book like new?
There is a saying in my house AKA from my mouth "Break my books spine and I'l break your spine" I cannot abide it! If you looked in my book cupboards, you'd think they hadn't been read. You would be wrong. I just don't snap their spines. I can read them perfectly fine without damaging them so don't see the need.

14 | Do you write in your books?
The only books I write in would be course books, and even then it would only be  a few underlined things in pencil.

15 | Your favourite book.
The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. I cannot wait for the third book in the trilogy and I'm very excited about the TV series in development. These are epic novels but I love them. If you have read The Wheel of Time then you will love this series.

I also adore Howl's Moving Castle by the late Welsh author Diana Wynne Jones. I love it. I read it before Studio Ghibli turned it into a movie. I was quite disappointed with the film adaption. I also went and saw a theatre production of it in London which was awesome.
