January Detox Time with Tropical Nutri-Greens, MyProtein

It’s that time of year again to jump back onto the healthy food wagon. The green craze is everywhere; Green juices, green smoothies etc and all at ridiculous prices so let me tell you about one I adore, not just because of the price tag but also because of the taste and quality.

In the past all the healthy green powders I’ve tried have been vile, tasting like the smell of fish food… Yum. Ok I’m not painting a pretty picture so far but bare with me. A couple of years ago when I was refilling my soy protein supplies from MyProtein, I spotted a trial sample of Tropical flavoured Total Nutri-Greens -A mix of 22 different whole foods and fruit, algae and vegetable extracts including; Spirulina, Wheat grass, Acerola Berry, Broccoli, Spinach leaf, Pomegranate, Apple fibre, Tomato, Elderberry, Blueberry and Chlorella. Each of these have their own health benefits. Flavoured greens were new to me and so thought why not?

I mixed it with water and was presented with a dark green, foamy beverage. It tasted… Delicious! It’s not going to win any beauty contests unless you’re an ogre living in a swamp but for something that’s good for you it tastes really good, especially if you’re like me and can’t stand the taste of plain green powders. Eurgh! I must warn you that this is very sweet. I have a massive sweet tooth so this is certainly not a problem for me. It’s great in smoothies where the sweetness is well balanced with the fruit etc so that’s one way to drink it. I personally just have it with water.

In terms of mixing it, all you need is a spoon to stir it and you’re sorted. No special mixing bottles required. The texture is fine, not gritty like some I’ve tried. It does settle if it’s left so you’ll want to stir it again before drinking. Total Nutri-Greens when settled can look like a sunset in an alternate universe due to the beetroot powder causing the water to turn slightly pink.

It’s recommended you take 7.5g once or twice a day with 250 – 350ml of liquid. You get a handy little measuring scoop which annoyingly I only found when the packet was nearly empty (I learnt my lesson so found the scoop straight away when I ordered my 2nd packet) so I use 3 or 4 level scoops make one serving. I admit that sometimes I’m too lazy to use the way scoop so estimate and my 330g packet of greens had lasted me ages.

I’ve used MyProtein for a long time now as they always have great discounts and offers where you can get free items or huge discounts. Check out their current Discount Codes & Vouchers Page. If you are unsure about a product they often sell them in sample pouches too which is how I fell in love with Total Nutri-Greens. I plan on taking my greens every day fit the foreseeable future now as I think they really help me plus they count towards your daily fruits and veggies so perfect if you haven’t been eating the best. I’m so glad MyProtein got in touch with me as it meant I could fill up on my favourite greens before I left the UK. Thank you!

Have you tried any green powders? How are you going to treat your body in 2015?
