GUEST POST | Is Time Running Out for Analogue?

It has been long overdue since I have had a guest blogger. Meet Becky from The Lifestyle Blogger UK. Today she’s talking analogue. Enjoy!

I have such a love for watches, mainly analogue to be honest but even so, big, small, statement watches or ones just to tell the time on, I love them all and have a collection to prove it!

So, when I came across the Time Telling Initiative run by, I just felt I had to write about it, I came over all inspired!

Is Time Running Out for Analogue?

Yes, I do live in the UK so it doesn’t really affect me but I just thought it was such a good scheme that maybe something like this could or should be done in the UK. It wasn’t until the Summer of last year (I think) when Joey Essex was on I’m a Celebrity and he admitted he couldn’t tell the time that I even really thought about other adults not being able to tell the time. I honestly thought everyone learned this at primary school! To be honest though, it was such a long time ago that I learn’t that I really can’t remember how I was taught but I guess someone must have!

‘We conducted a study earlier in 2015, in the Bronx, NY area. The participants were children between the ages of 6-12. What we found was that only 1 in 5 actually scored full marks in the study. That’s just 20% having the ability to tell time on an analog watch.’

I guess now that digital clocks and smartphones are used so much, analogue watches are almost a thing of the past, especially with the younger generation. It’s only natural that less and less youngsters either don’t own or use one, especially when they can just look at the front screen of their smartphone and find out that way. It makes me wonder how my childhood would have been if we had smartphones and things back then…how old!!

I do however think it’s a shame that this seems to be an area that is being forgotten so I think it’s a great idea that this initiative is being done over in the US. Did you know, these days only 1 in 10 children own a wrist watch! That’s crazy! It kinda makes me sad thinking that the beautiful old analogue watches may soon be a thing of the past! I just hope that with all these gorgeous new designs coming out and more bloggers and bloggers of the 30 plus age group that keep talking and posting about them on their social media accounts inspire the younger generation to get back to analog.

Oh, and for any of you in the US reading this, don’t forget, you can vote on the 2016 election countdown timers that DiscountWatchStore are running on their website. Vote here. I think it’s just for fun but not living in the US I’m not 100% sure how they do things over there!

Thank you for reading.

I have to admit that I wear a digital watch. It takes me a while longer to ‘figure’ out the time on an analogue. Laziness really. Next time I need a new watch I’ll be looking out for an analogue watch with an alarm function so that I know to take my medicine at 4pm.
I am always on the lookout for guest bloggers. If you are interested then get in touch.
