Not so long ago, I tweeted my joy about my seasonal treat to myself arriving in the post: A vegan friendly Bluebird Tea Co Advent Calendar. By popular request, here is what I received this week:

Day 1 – Gingerbread Chai
I have a confession. I didn’t drink this. I HATE ginger. The teabag itself didn’t actually smell all that gingery and looking back, I probably would have enjoyed it. Instead I made it for my partner to enjoy and enjoy it he did. It smelt very Christmassey.
Day 2 – Bluebirds Great British Cuppa
Whilst I have been lucky enough to try out many Bluebird teas, I haven’t actually tried any of their “normal” flavours. I am very, very fussy when it comes to plain black tea. I made it with a splash of almond milk and one sugar and enjoyed every sip whilst finishing off my uni assignment. It didn’t leave a nasty aftertaste and I know I will be buying more of this.
Apparently this award winning tea was designed to be best enjoyed black but I could not resist adding milk.
Day 3 – MojiTEA
The best green tea for people who don’t like green tea.
I actually have a sample sachet of this tea already which was barely touched but after I used this tea bag, I doubt the rest of my sample bag will last me the week. It is a refreshingly light green tea with uplifting lemongrass, mint and lime. Just what I needed to start the day.
Day 4 – Pure Grade Matcha
Matcha is amazing. I have raved about it on this blog many-a-times. I have even had to chance to enjoy matcha in Japan and love every aspect. This came in a little tin. You don’t need to use a lot to make a cup so this tin will last me a good 4+ cups I reckon. Bluebird do matcha a bit differently with flavours like orange matcha and cocoa matcha too. Mmmm!

Day 5 – Nearly Nirvana
I have been eyeing this one up on their site. It is made with rare and expensive silver needle white tea. Mixed with green tea, jasmin blossoms, spearmint and orange blossom and it is a delicate, floral tea with a minty kick. A good afternoon pick-me-up drink.
Day 6 – Vegan chocolate truffle
I wasn’t expecting any chocolate but what is an advent calendar without chocolate? I would love to know the brand as these truffles were amazing! There is no way you could tell this was dairy free. Creamy “milk” chocolate at it’s best.

Day 7 – Pandalicious Liquorice
I almost gave this tea to my partner as the first ingredient I noticed was ginger and in Bluebirds daily email it stated it is made with generous chunks of ginger… Ick! I pushed myself and brewed up. I could taste the sweet licorice but I only got a mild after-taste heat from the ginger so surprised myself by enjoying this!
|Days 1 to 7|
Initial thoughts: I was hoping that there would be a couple of teabags each day instead of one but this makes the tea more special so I take the time out to enjoy it. I find it very difficult to relax so this forces me into relaxation submission which is always a positive thing.
Being a child at heart, I am a bit disappointed that there are no festive illustrations behind each door to go with the tea. Who wouldn’t want to be greeted with a waddle of penguins behind their door?
Besides this, I am always excited each morning to discover something new and am excited about the next 7 days!
I really enjoy how each morning Bluebird Tea send out an email explaining a bit more about each tea and the best ways to drink it. I open the physical advent calendar but then all the information comes digitally. It is a great idea.
What kind of advent calendar do you have? Which day would you most like to have tried?
