Vegetarian and veganism has come a long way since I went veggie back in 2001 then vegan in 2017. I was 13 and my favourite sweets were (yep, you guessed it) gummy fried eggs. Several years later I can buy vegan marshmallows, fudge, popcorn chicken but still no fried eggs!
Finally, the amazing science wizards at The Conscious Candy Co have cracked the fried egg problem. But were they worth the 19 year wait?
The Conscious Candy Company are one of a few vegan pick n mix businesses I follow. Owning a massive sweet tooth, I need to get a gummy fix every now and then. So when they announced they had formulated and actually created/incubated a vegan fried egg, I noted down the release date so I could place my order.
The lockdown parcel I am most excited about is here. My dreams are answered and now I’ll finally enjoy Fried Egg gummy sweets again!!! I was 13 when I last ate one, over half my life ago. Are they the same?
I am so glad these sweets exist. But to be totally honest, they are not the same as gelatin fried eggs. Perhaps I glorified them in my head over all those years? The expectations were too high to ever be good enough.
Despite this, I still thoroughly enjoyed them and it did not take me long to wolf down the whole bag. Given a selection of vegan pick n mix, I would definitely add some to my bag. The white is soft and the “yolk” is chewy but the taste is not quite as magical. But these are still a very nice chewy, orange and vanilla flavoured sweet.
